Make a Gift in Your Will or Estate Plan

Many of our supporters leave gifts to Nuçi’s Space in their wills or estate plans so they can do even more to prevent suicide for future generations. You can, too. You'll be helping to inspire a world free of the stigma attached to brain illnesses and its sufferers for years to come.

HOW IT WORKS:

1. You designate a particular asset or a percentage of your estate to Nuçi’s Space by including a provision in your will or revocable trust. You can do this while creating your will or trust, or you can amend an existing one with a simple legal document. Nuçi’s Space can be either a primary or a contingent beneficiary.

2. Unless specified otherwise, your gift will be used to support our organization’s three primary programs and day-to-day operations. If you wish to designate your gift for a particular purpose, please contact us for assistance to ensure that we can honor your wishes.

3. You inform Nuçi’s Space of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled. This is especially important for gifts of real estate, business interests or other personal, tangible property.

4. Nuçi’s Space receives the gift after your lifetime and applies it to the purpose(s) you specified. Unrestricted charitable gifts are used to support our organization across our 3 primary programs and in our day-to-day operations.

5. Your distribution is deductible for federal estate tax purposes, and there is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim. In addition, the gift is usually exempt from state inheritance taxes.

BENEFITS:

• Your gift costs you nothing now. You retain control of your assets and can modify your gift if needed. Your gift can remain anonymous if you choose.

• Your gift may provide tax savings or help reduce the tax burden for your heirs.

• You can direct your gift to a particular purpose (be sure to check with Nuçi’s Space to ensure your request is understood and that your gift can be used as you intend).

• You can leave a gift in honor or memory of someone who inspired your love of mental health and music.

• You will be helping to further mental health support for future generations.

MORE INFORMATION:

• Please talk with us as you are drafting your will or trust if you want to designate the purpose of your bequest. The more narrowly you restrict its use, the greater the risk that the program you want to support won't be as vital when we receive your gift in the future.

• Similarly, please let us know in advance if you intend to bequeath real estate, a business interest or other personal, tangible property.

• The remaining balance in your retirement plan can make a tax-wise gift and can be donated to charity. Use your plan's beneficiary form to avoid having it included in your taxable estate.

• There are several types of bequests with different ways to direct how your estate is distributed. Contact us for more information.

Name Nuçi’s Space as a Beneficiary of Your Life Insurance Policy

You can help our mission to prevent suicide for generations to come by designating Nuçi’s Space as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. It's an easy way to make a difference for future mental health support efforts.

HOW IT WORKS

You can name Nuçi’s Space as primary beneficiary of your life insurance policy or as contingent beneficiary should your other beneficiaries not survive you.

Please note: You can also irrevocably donate your paid-up life insurance policy; please contact us directly about making this type of gift.

Here's the process:

1. Provide now for a future gift by naming Nuçi’s Space as beneficiary of a policy insuring your life.

2. At death the benefits pass to Nuçi’s Space free of federal estate tax and are applied to the general fund or purpose designated by the donor in agreement with Nuçi’s Space.

• Execute this estate planning strategy with little paperwork. Change your mind and beneficiaries at any time.

• Remove an asset from your potential gross taxable estate, saving on taxes in the future.

• Make a significant gift from income instead of capital.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO MAKE SURE YOUR GIFT IS RECIEVED:

1. Request a beneficiary form from your bank or plan administrator. This form—not your will—determines how these assets are distributed after your lifetime. Those assets will be available sooner to Nuçi’s Space as no probate is required.

2. Write in Nuçi’s Space as beneficiary or partial beneficiary using our business address: 396 Oconee St Athens GA, 30601

3. If the form requests a social security number, use our EIN 58-2409414 and Date of Incorporation: February 1999

4. Return the beneficiary form to your plan administrator. Send us a copy as well, sharing as much account information as you're comfortable with so we can correctly identify and claim your gift. (e.g., account type, account number, approximate value). Your gift will be used to support our organization’s three primary programs and day-to-day operations unless you specify otherwise. The information and any documents shared with us will be kept confidential.

5. Please include with your will or trust a list of your non-probate assets and the beneficiaries' contact information. Also be sure to speak to your executor/trustee about providing copies of death certificates, which most custodians require for beneficiary claims.

Name Nuçi’s Space as a Beneficiary of Your Retirement Plan

Help ensure the  mental health of musicians by making Nuçi’s Space a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified retirement plan. The taxes applied to your retirement plan assets may be different than you imagined;  in fact, using retirement assets to make a donation and leaving other assets to your heirs often enables you to give more to your heirs.

HERE’S THE PROCESS:

You name Nuçi’s Space as the beneficiary of a qualifying retirement plan through a beneficiary designation form, ensuring assets will not be included in your taxable estate. An extra step may be required to designate a 401(k).

After your lifetime, the residue of your plan passes to Nuçi’s Space tax-free and to any other named heirs.

BENEFITS:

• You may be able to escape both income AND estate taxes levied on the residue left in your retirement account. Since Nuçi’s Space is a non-profit organization, we won't pay income tax on the distribution, nor will the gift be subject to estate tax. The entire amount comes to us, and your heirs will benefit from a reduced estate tax burden.

• Continue to take withdrawals during your lifetime.

• Change the beneficiary if your circumstances change.

• Support future suicide prevention work.

Your gift will be used to support our organization’s day-to-day work across our three programs and resource center until you specify otherwise.

• When creating your will or trust, include a list of your non-probate assets and the beneficiaries' contact information. Also be sure to speak to your executor/trustee about providing copies of death certificates, which most custodians require for beneficiary claims.

 Use Your IRA to Support Suicide Prevention Efforts

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA to Nuçi’s Space. It's an efficient way to support the causes that matter to you most.

HOW IT WORKS:

• You direct distributions in the amount of your choosing, up to an annual limit set by the IRS from your traditional or Roth IRA to Nuçi’s Space. Other types of retirement plans are not covered by the law.

• The distributions go directly to Nuçi’s Space and are not subject to federal income tax.

BENEFITS:

• If you’re 73 or older, your gift can be used to satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD).

• You may avoid the income tax penalty on your distributions.

• You have the satisfaction of seeing your gift immediately support critical suicide prevention work.

A GIFT THROUGH YOUR IRA MAY BE FOR YOU IF…

• You are over age 70½.

• You are over age 73 and do not need the additional income from your required minimum distribution (RMD).

• You don't itemize deductions or you are subject to a rule that limits your deductions.

• You live in a state with no charitable income tax deduction.

• You are no longer working and making contributions to a retirement plan.

MAKING YOUR GIFT:

Contact your IRA custodian and ask them to send the check for a "qualified charitable distribution" to Nuçi’s Space to the attention of the Treasury IRA at the following address:

If you are still working and contributing to a retirement account, this gift could impact your taxable income. Please consult a qualified advisor before making a gift. Donor Advised Funds

If you support multiple organizations or you want to secure a charitable deduction now but designate beneficiaries later, a donor-advised fund (DAF) may work for you. They can be established with a number of entities, including community foundations and financial institutions.

CAN IT WORK FOR YOU?

This gift may be for you if:

• You have extra income or a special taxable event, but desire to make charitable gifts over several years.

• You have several different charitable interests and want to simplify your giving.

• You have a private foundation that you wish to terminate. You can transfer those assets to a DAF.

• You wish to use a DAF to complement a private foundation (perhaps in order to give anonymously).

THE FRIENDS OF NUÇI’S SPACE FUND:

 This is a designated fund within the Athens Area Community Foundation, created by our Board to build long-term financial stability for Nuçi’s Space. Your gift grows over time through interest and dividends, creating a lasting resource for our mission.

In 2024, the Nuçi’s Space Board of Directors established a Designated Fund within the Athens Area Community Foundation. Anyone can donate to this fund, and it will grow through interest and dividends as part of AACF’s total investment portfolio. At your request, we’ll notify your honoree or the loved ones of your gift but they will not receive ongoing communication from Nuçi’s Space.
