LOCAL

Advantage Behavioral Health  Free Mental Health evaluation and treatment. Advantage is a Community Service Board. Community Service Boards (CSBs) were set up by the state to provide direct and immediate assistance to those requiring help. If you or a family member needs access to supports for mental health, developmental disability, or substance-abuse services, find the nearest Community Service Board (CSB) that can assist or provide a referral. Athens Pride and Queer Collective  Athens Pride + Queer Collective is dedicated to the advancement of equity, affirmation, diversity, and wellness of queer populations in the greater Athens area by working with historically marginalized communities through outreach, social connection, education, and events. APQC advocates alongside and in alliance with all LGBTQIA2S+ populations with particular focus on intersectionalities and queer identities that have been historically silenced, stigmatized, and marginalized within and outside of dominant queer culture. APQC has support/community groups, including, but not limited to LGBTQ Youth Group, QTBIPOC Group, Trans Support Group, and Religious Trauma Support Groups.

Project Safe Support for survivors of domestic violence. Project Safe is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to end domestic violence through crisis intervention, ongoing supportive services, systems change advocacy, and prevention and education. Project Safe’s primary service area is Madison County, Oconee County, Clarke County, and Oglethorpe County, but provides services to people from all over Georgia. The Cottage Support for victims of sexual assault or child abuse. The Cottage operates a 24/7 crisis hotline. In addition to providing direct services to survivors of sexual assault, The Cottage works within the community on child abuse and sexual assault education, intervention, healing and prevention efforts through trainings with communities, schools, churches and other agencies and public awareness events. Access Point of Georgia Access Point is a 501c3 nonprofit in Athens GA, created with the intention of serving some of NE Georgia’s most vulnerable populations. Access Point provides access to clean injection equipment, Narcan, and others supplies to people who inject drugs. Access point can also provide referrals for access to healthcare, housing, and recovery and mental health resources. Access Point meets people where they are through harm reduction, care and compassion, and become a bridge to any services they may wish to access. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international fellowship requiring no membership dues or fees, dedicated to helping alcoholics peer to peer in sobriety through its spiritually inclined Twelve Steps program. Structurally guided by its Twelve Traditions, AA is set up as non-professional, non-denominational, as well as self-supporting and apolitical, with an avowed desire to stop drinking being its sole requirement for membership. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Narcotics Anonymous, founded in 1953, is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Narcotics Anonymous uses a 12-step model developed for people with varied substance use disorders and is the second-largest 12-step organization. To find Athens meetings, go here.

GMHCN  The Georiga Mental Health Consumer Network. The Peer Support, Wellness, and Respite Centers are peer-run alternatives to traditional mental health day programs and psychiatric hospitalization. Each of the four Peer Support, Wellness, and Respite Centers has respite rooms available to citizens of Georgia, available 24 hours a day, year-round. The three respite rooms at each Center are free of charge and can be occupied by a peer overwhelmed by life challenges who feels they would benefit from 24/7 peer support, for up to seven nights, every 30 days. Translifeline  Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to Trans people in crisis – for the Trans community, by the Trans community. Phone: 877- 565-8860


Trevor Project The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, Transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. 866-488-7386


GLBT National Help Center The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) National Help Center, founded in 1996, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides vital peer-support, community connections and resource information to people with questions regarding sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Recovery Resources

Smart Recovery SMART Recovery is a fresh approach to addiction recovery. SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. This is more than an acronym: it is a transformative method of moving from addictive substances and negative behaviors to a life of positive self-regard and willingness to change. MusicCares Safe Harbour MusiCares operates a Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Program that recognizes those issues unique to music professionals at any stage of their career. We offer eligible individuals financial assistance and resources for psychotherapy, coaching and psychiatric expenses, inpatient and outpatient treatment, detox and sober living costs.

RAINN Nat’l. Sexual Assault Hotline: RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org y rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. Nat’l. Center on Elder Abuse: The NCEA provides the latest information regarding research, training, best practices, news and resources on elder abuse, neglect and exploitation to professionals and the public. First established by the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) in 1988 as a national elder abuse resource center, the NCEA was granted a permanent home at AoA in the 1992 amendments made to Title II of the Older Americans Act. The NCEA is one of 27 Administration on Aging-funded Resource Centers. Research shows that as many as two million elders are abused in the United States. The Administration on Aging recognizes that as a government, as a society and as individuals, we must increase our efforts to ensure that all older adults age with dignity and honor. National Runaway Switchboard: The National Runaway Switchboard is a national communications system that assists youth who have run away or are considering running away and their families. With its database of more than 17,000 resources, NRS links youth and families across the country to shelters, counseling, medical assistance, and other vital services. In addition, NRS works to prevent youth from running away. By helping youth and adults resolve problems constructively, staff and volunteers diffuse escalating tensions, promote dialogue and reduce youths' desire to run away. Phone: 800-621-4000
