In Memory of Rosalynn Carter

In memory of Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who passed away on November 19, we wanted to share a special piece of Nuçi’s Space history as it relates to Mrs. Carter’s leading advocacy for mental health. Pictured here is a reflection that our late founder Miss Linda Phillips posted in 2017, highlighting her experience attending a Councilors’ Board Meeting at the Carter Center with Mrs. Carter, whose “pet project” was the Center’s Mental Health Initiative. The year prior, Linda sent Mrs. Carter her book, “A Beautiful Here”, to share Nuçi’s story and that of Nuçi’s Space. Mrs. Carter wrote Linda a letter in response, also pictured here, that reads,

Dear Linda,

Thank you for the copy of A Beautiful Here and its thoughtful inscription. Your story - and Nuçi’s -is heartbreaking, but it is also inspiring. I can only imagine how terrible it is to lose a child to depression, and I deeply admire you for all you have gone on to do to help other young musicians in need of mental health resources.

I have worked for many years to help those living with mental illnesses and will continue to do all I can. I will keep you in my heart and prayers.

With best wishes,

Sincerely,

Rosalynn Carter”

Here’s to a woman who, as Linda wrote, was “Kindness in Action”.
