Vision, Mission & Values
Our vision is to end the epidemic of suicide and to inspire a culture free of the stigma attached to brain illnesses and its sufferers by supporting a community-wide effort that focuses on education, prevention and access to appropriate treatment.
Our mission is to prevent suicide. With a focus on musicians, Nuçi’s Space advocates for and helps to alleviate the suffering for those living with a brain illness and fights to end the stigma of mental illness.
To accomplish our mission, Nuçi’s Space maintains a health and resource center for musicians as a safe space to seek support and guidance, provides access to affordable, obstacle-free professional care, actively participates in treatment and educates about awareness, prevention and the risk factors of brain illnesses.
Nuçi’s Space, and all those who represent the organization, will champion a culture of kindness and support to all in our community and maintain the highest standards of caring in all that we do through Nurturing | Understanding | Compassion | Insight.
In 1999, the Phillips family of Atlanta formed the Nuçi Phillips Memorial Foundation in memory of their 22-year-old son and brother Nuçi, who in 1996 killed himself after a long battle with major depression.
Nuçi was a talented musician and a promising student at the University of Georgia in Athens. Having lived the course of Nuçi’s illness with him, the family recognized the need for obstacle free, user-friendly ways of treating and supporting those who suffer from depression and other such disorders. With a focus on Nuçi’s fellow musicians, the nonprofit Foundation created Nuçi’s Space.

Having lived the course of Nuçi’s illness with him, Linda recognized the need for obstacle free, user-friendly ways of treating and supporting those who suffer from depression and other related brain illnesses. With a focus on Nuçi’s fellow musicians, the nonprofit Foundation opened the doors to Nuçi’s Space on September 30th, 2000.
Linda Phillips has been a leading champion of mental illness awareness and a vocal proponent for reform. In Fall 2016, Mrs. Phillips released her memoir which chronicles her journey to find joy again after emerging from the overwhelming darkness of losing her son to suicide following a lifelong struggle with severe depression. In the decades since, the state of mental health care has declined. In this tender retelling of the most painful experience of her life, Phillips not only gives raw insight into the reeling effects of suicide on her family and herself, she examines the process that helped her regain herself in the aftermath. Her insights offer a hopeful, effective solution. A very simple idea that can be initiated by any passionate, caring person. In this case, the focus is on musicians and the creative community as well as the community at large. The book, A Beautiful Here, can be purchased in our Store. All proceeds benefit Nuçi’s Space.
